That's what my trainer said before we deadlifted.

He was talking about the weight.

But I heard something else.

I told him that should be the title of his book one day.

He laughed. I wasn’t joking.

Because that line stuck with me.

This year has been heavy.

The house that burned down last January.

Other things I don't say out loud to strangers on the internet.

Heavy in ways that knocked me down.

Literally. Metaphorically. Both.

It might just be heavy.

Not because something's wrong.

Not because I'm doing it wrong.

Not because I'm weak, broken, or in need of fixing.

Just heavy.

Some seasons are.

Some weights are.

And that's allowed.

The question isn't when does it get lighter.

The question is, can you keep showing up while it's still heavy?

Can you keep moving?

Keep lifting?

Keep standing?

Not perfectly.

Not without getting knocked down.

But with the confidence that you will handle it.

That’s the mindset I'm carrying into this year.

Not resolutions.

Not goals.

Not waiting for the weight to disappear.

It might just be heavy.

I don't know if things ever get lighter.

But I'm convinced that even if the weight doesn't change, we do.
