Motivation, humor, and honesty from a man actively dodging a midlife crisis so you can too.

"What would happen if you decided to get really ripped?"
A friend texted me that the other day in reference to getting in great shape.
Without thinking I wrote back:
"Let's find out."
And I meant it.
The last time I could say I was ripped was during the pandemic. 6 years ago.
So, why wouldn’t I get ripped? Why couldn’t I?
Not someday. Not when things settle down. Not after I figure everything out.
Now.
Let's find out.
After I sent that text, something clicked.
I’m not actually that far away.
I’m in good shape and have a strong foundation.
Months? Sure. Years? No.
The distance here isn’t about ability.
It’s about commitment, focus, and accountability.
What really gets me excited about this isn’t the result (though that is appealing).
It’s the feeling behind the words:
Let's find out.
There’s something playful about that.
It’s curious. Dangerous in the right way.
Like being a kid before responsibilities showed up.
If we’re honest, most of us are closer to the things we want than we pretend we are.
The gap isn't talent.
It’s the decision.
So I got practical, and asked myself what would I need to do to get ripped:
What would I have to do?
Follow a plan. Eat real food. Avoid processed food. Limit. Remove alcohol. This won’t happen by accident.
Who would I have to become?
An athlete. Someone who treats his body like his primary asset instead of an afterthought.
What would I have to learn?
Choosing the right thing instead of the easy thing. Every day.
What would I have to sacrifice?
Excuses and about 500 calories a day.
Let's find out.
This isn't really about getting ripped.
It can be about anything.
Traveling the world. Writing a book. Learning to play the banjo. Launching a digital product. Speaking on stage.
You're probably closer than you think.
But you won’t find out what you’re capable of until you put yourself in a position to find out.
"Let's find out" isn't a threat.
It's an invitation.
An invitation to prove something to yourself, not anyone else.
It’s about seeing what ya got.
So let’s find out.

P.S. Felt this? Buy me a coffee.
P.P.S. I’m putting together something for a small group starting February 1 to help you “find out.” If interested, respond to this email.
