🥾 10 Timeless Lessons
This week I delivered a keynote to some young professional leaders in Philadelphia.
This book is used by top organizations across the country to help onboard interns and young professionals as they begin their careers.
It was fun to notice that the themes I shared with those early twenty-somethings apply to folks regardless of their age.
Here are 10 of the timeless lessons I shared:
The Unseen Hours
You Don't Climb A Mountain By Accident
If I could magically drop you off at the top of Mt. Everest, what would happen?
If it was a clear day, you'd briefly take in a magnificent view. Then, you'd probably pass out or die.
Why? Because your lungs haven't earned being at that altitude. Anything worth achieving takes time and effort.
Confidence Is Earned
You build your confidence by showing up every day and putting in the reps.
You build big muscles and get stronger by regularly lifting heavy weights.
Shortcuts may get you there faster, but rarely are they sustainable.
The Last 30 Days
Want to know where you're headed? Your last 30 days are a great indicator of where you're going in your career, relationships, parenting, health, finances, and more.
Find The Edge
It's critical to regularly find yourself outside of your comfort zone.
The place where you get butterflies in your stomach, an increased heart rate, or a dry throat because you're putting yourself out there.
If you're not close enough to the edge, you're taking up too much space.
Play To Win
Pay very close attention to how you're showing up in life.
Note: If you play not to lose, you will probably lose.
Take Action On Your Ideas
Awesome technology like Google Drive, Microsoft Word, Dropbox, Evernote, or the Notes app on your phone weren't built as a graveyard for your ideas to go to and die.
Use The Ingredients That You Have
Never forget: most breakthroughs come from constraints.
Be The Example
Three things you can always control: Your attitude, the effort you give, and the actions you take.
Warning: All of these are contagious and can rub off on people.
Surround Yourself With Greatness
Are you spending time with Allies or Thieves?
Spend time with people who make you better. Men who provide positive peer pressure.
Pay close attention to who's clapping when you win.
These insights transcend age and occupation.
Apply them to your life and you'll see transformative results.
