🪓 LEAN INTO THE PAIN

Theodore Roosevelt once said:

“We must all either wear out or rust out, every one of us. My choice is to wear out.”

Though you may not live your life as cavalier as the 26th President of the United States did, you still can find inspiration in his life philosophy.

There’s a major difference between wearing out and rusting out.

Rusting out happens when you do nothing.

Wearing out happens when you take action, even if you’re pushed to your limits at times.

Everyday life provides you with an opportunity to lean into (or away from) the pain.

Pain is the temporary discomfort required for a long-term gain.

It’s stretching yourself beyond the status quo.

And it’s the willingness to stand out when everyone else is doing their best to fit in.

Leaning into the pain can mean having tough conversations…

  • Getting up earlier when you’d rather stay in bed...

  • Doing something instead of complaining…

  • Making the right choice, not the easy choice...

Leaning away from the pain means standing on the sidelines of life…

  • Taking the easy way out...

  • Treating life like a dress rehearsal….

  • Doing “good enough” work…

So, how do you become the type of man who approaches life head on?

  • By establishing and committing to your standards (and recommitting every day)...

  • Doing the hard work in the unseen hours…

  • Trusting yourself, your decisions, and your path...

Most people spend their lives straddling lanes. Half in one lane, half in the other. Stuck in the purgatory of in between.

When you demand more of yourself, it means that, come hell or high water, you’re willing to choose a lane and make a choice.

Everything needed to shift your actions from “one day” to “now” is already in your possession.

The person who you most need to invest in, believe in, and support along the way - is you.

If you don’t bet on yourself, no one else will.

A QUESTION TO ANSWER

What could leaning into the pain (even just a little) look like for you?
