💩 EMOTIONAL CONSTIPATION

Many men are emotionally constipated.

This means they have emotions inside of them that have not been expressed, processed, or released.

In fact, studies have found that 60% of men never share how they feel with anyone.

Instead, we can tuck our emotions away, do our best to ignore them, and rarely fully let them out.

These emotions can include:

  • Fear

  • Joy

  • Shame

  • Happiness

  • Sadness

  • Guilt

  • Anger

When we don’t regularly release, share, or have an outlet for our emotions, it’s like shaking up a can of soda but never opening it while the pressure steadily builds.

This unreleased “pressure” can result in:

  • A short temper

  • Depression

  • Substance abuse

  • Stupid fights with your spouse

  • Isolation from others

  • Feeling disconnected from your kids

  • And even actual digestion issues

To be fully present for those things and people that matter most, it’s critical to create a healthy release for your emotions.

These outlets can include:

  • Therapy or coaching

  • Joining a men’s group

  • Exercising regularly

  • Journaling

  • Taking a break from substances like alcohol

  • Scheduling uninterrupted personal time

  • Spending time in nature

When you regularly feel all you need to feel and release what needs to be released, you’ll feel lighter, have more energy, and create deeper connections with those around you.

🎧 WHAT WE’RE LISTENING TO

“Family pathology rolls from generation to generation like a fire in the woods taking down everything in its path until one person, in one generation, has the courage to turn and face the flames. That person brings peace to his ancestors and spares the children that follow.” - Terry Real

In a powerful episode of The Peter Attia Drive podcast, renowned family therapist and the best-selling author of I Don’t Want to Talk About It, Terry Real discusses the link between childhood trauma, deep-rooted shame, anger, and depression.

Using real-life examples, Terry details how he uses his Relational Life Therapy (RLT) process to help break cycles of suffering in order to lead a fulfilling life.
