✍️ THE OLD YOU

In a 2016 interview in the New York Times, the founders of a popular streetwear fashion label were discussing the ups and downs throughout their lives and careers.

When reminiscing about growing up in New York City, one of the cofounders said, “I miss the old New York.”

His co-founder corrected him. “No, you don’t,” he said. “You miss the old you.”

Essentially, he was saying was: “You miss the person you were during that time. How you showed up in life. Who you were that you no longer are...”

Have you ever found yourself reminiscing about the days gone by?

Ever caught yourself talking to friends or family, saying:

I miss the old neighborhood . . .

I miss my old job . . .

I miss the college days. . .

When most men reminisce about the old days, what they’re really saying is they miss who they once were.

What we actually crave are the emotions, energy, and most of all, the optimism we experienced during that time of life.

The truth is today you are smarter, better equipped, and wiser than you have ever been before in your life.

It's just that odds are the “old you” was probably bolder.

QUESTION TO ANSWER

As it relates to the “old days” and the “old you,” answer this question:

What have you stopped doing that got you to where you are today? Something the “old you” found success and fulfillment with.

To follow-up:

What positive difference (and impact) could it make in your life if you reintroduced some of these things that you stopped doing into your work, relationships, mindset, and beyond?

💬 TO PONDER

Often the difference between a successful person and a failure is not one has better abilities or ideas, but the courage that one has to bet on one's ideas, to take a calculated risk - and to act.
