The Dangers of Saying "I'm Fine": How to Find Support in Times of Struggle
Pay close attention when you hear these two words, this thing called joy, and doing what we always wanted.
GM. This is Man Morning - the newsletter for the growth minded man who wants to wake up with a greater sense of purpose and community.
In today’s issue:
⚠️ 2 dangerous words
🎉 A significant amount of joy

⚠️ 2 DANGEROUS WORDS
Odds are, more is expected of you than ever before.
From your home to your work, people like your spouse, kids, colleagues, and friends count on you.
Like many men, you probably don’t complain much about your responsibilities.
You simply do what’s expected of you.
That’s what a man is supposed to do, right?
When friends or family ask (if they ask), “How are you doing?” you probably immediately respond, “I’m fine.”
“I’m fine” are two of the most dangerous words out there. Especially when you’re not fine.
We’ve talked in a past issue about being emotionally constipated (not regularly releasing, sharing, or having an outlet for our emotions).
This is like shaking up a can of soda, but never opening it, while the pressure steadily builds.
Unreleased pressure can have devastating effects on a man’s life.
If you’re not fine, that’s ok.
And it’s critical to find outlets to release the pressure.
Please know that there are always people and resources available to support you.
Whether it’s:
Working with a therapist or coach
Honestly answering the question “How are you doing?” the next time someone asks you
Starting a Man Morning or joining another community
Know that support is here.
You can even respond to this email and we’ll do our best to support you and point you in the right direction.
Please, just don’t keep everything bottled up inside.
People are willing to support you but sometimes you must be willing to ask for that help.
As you read this, if there’s a man in your life who puts on a strong face, but you wonder how he is really doing, stop what you’re doing right now and check in on him.
It might just save their life.
At Man Morning we’re in your corner.
We believe the best thing to happen to you hasn’t happened yet.
You are important.
You are valuable.
Your happiness matters.
🎉 A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF JOY
We don’t talk about joy enough.
Is there something you’re not doing in your life, that if you did it, would add a significant amount of joy to your daily or weekly routine?
If you’re struggling answering this question, think back to your youth for inspiration.
Do at least one thing a day, big or small, that brings you joy.
Here are some hobby ideas for inspiration.
💬 SMART WORDS
“Don’t you think it’s time you started doing what we always wanted.”
That's it for today.
