HOW TO ADD TIME TO YOUR DAY

You’ve heard the old cliché, “We all have the same 24 hours in a day.”

While there’s truth in that statement, it’s not 100% true.

Time is a funny thing.

You can spend 20 minutes doing something dreadful and it feels like two hours.

Or you can spend two hours doing something you enjoy and it feels like 20 minutes.

The other thing about time is there never seems to be enough hours to accomplish everything that needs to be done in a day.

Sure, there are things we can do to manage our time like time blocking, closing non-essential "apps," or using something like the pomodoro technique.

There’s also a massive industry dedicated to helping people do deep work, develop great habits, and get things done.

All of these are great options.

However, the best way to add time in your day is to simply add more time to your day.

How do you do this if you don’t have access to a flux capacitor?

Easy. Wake up earlier (Sorry, not sorry).

Do you have to wake up at 4:30 AM every day of your life? Absolutely not.

But can you get up a little earlier than you normally do? Absolutely.

You may be thinking, “I’m not a morning person. Can’t I just stay up later instead?” Sure.

And research shows getting at least 8 hours of sleep (something that’s hard to do if you stay up late and have a traditional schedule) will help:

  • Decrease risk of health complications

  • Reduce stress

  • Increase productivity

  • Prevent weight gain

  • Improve exercise performance

Wake up a little earlier.

Don’t let the sun catch you in bed.

⌚ MAN MORNING WAKE UP CHALLENGE

Over the next week, set your alarm for 5 minutes earlier each day until you can consistently add 30 minutes to your wake-up time.

Waking up just 30 minutes earlier a day adds up to:

  • 3.5 hours a week

  • 14 hours a month

  • And 182 hours a year (based on 52 weeks)

In other words, that adds up to more than four 40-hour work weeks of “extra time.”

This is time which you wouldn’t have had otherwise.

💬 SMART WORDS

“It is well to be up before daybreak, for such habits contribute to health, wealth, and wisdom.”
